Volunteers
In order for this event to run smoothly each team with one participant living within the “local radius” of either the start or finish line will need to provide two (2) volunteers for the race.
Local Radius

What Do Volunteers Do?
- Volunteers will act as race marshalls, help with the Starting line or Finish line areas, and staff the 35 exchange points along the route.
- Each volunteer works a shift of 2 – 4 hours in length.
- Volunteer assignments can be on either day of the relay, March 26 or 27 at any time of the day. We do our best to assign west coast volunteers to west coast stations and east coast volunteers to east coast stations.
- Typically volunteers will be assigned to the exchange points for each leg. At the exchange points volunteers will be helping to maintain some semblance of order at the exchange point. This may include directing relay traffic to appropriate stopping areas, directing non relay traffic, or helping runners navigate the safety exchanges which can be a bit confusing.
- Volunteers will be able to select their location and assignment online when the assignment process begins (aprox 2-3 weeks before the race). This is a first come first served selection process and you will be notified 2-3 days ahead of time when selection day is.
Volunteer Requirements
All race volunteers must:
- Submit a waiver before working their assigned shift (this can be done online)
- Arrange their own transportation to and from the volunteer assignments
- Wear their Offical Volunteer shirt to identify themselves as a race official.
- Be of sound mind and body without limitations that would hinder their ability to perform their volunteer duties.
- Be understanding this is a 30+ hour race and volunteer shifts may be at less than desireable times. Even though many people may not be up at 3am, we’ll have 100’s of runners on the course depending on your support.
- Be at least 16 years of age.
- Join us at the post race party so we can properly thank you with food and beverage for your hard work! (Okay, not a requirement but we’d like it if you were there)
